If it is moving by too fast, try zooming out so you can see more at once. The PgUp and PgDn keys will adjust the zoom level.
If you are just looking for strong beats there are two things you should look for. One is the little gray dots at the top of the spectorgram. These are "detected beats" that were found by the software.
Of course automated beat detection isn't perfect, so you will need to learn some basics on reading the Spectrogram also. In general, for strong beats just look for any sudden changes in the color appearance of the Spectrogram. For a heavy bass line, look toward the bottom of the Spectrogram only.
If still in doubt (it takes practice to understand what is being shown), just put the mouse over the Spectrogram, hold the left button, then drag over a section of the audio. This will limit playback to the highlighted portion. To clear the highlighted portion and return to the whole song, right click the spectrogram.

In the box that says spectrogram right click and change the view to the green one. you'll be able to see the beat marks easier. Also in the spectrogram there are little grey lines in the window that mark the beats auto-magically for you. You could use those.

I just bought aurora and uploaded my song photo and I have a 16 channel to start. But looking at the spectrogram is all messy. I cant figure out how to time the music. I try pressing play to watch the line move across but it goes so fast its hard to see where the beats hit. I tried to use the notes but cant read music so this is beginning to make me crazy. does someone know an easier way to set the timing? Thanks for all the help, Harry
